Description
What in Western countries may not even be an offence, in the Middle East is a sin - a crime that can cost you your head.
Betraying one's country, family, religion or traditions can be deadly, as Warda Albasri, Dorota's husband's former lover and now her doctor and friend, finds out.
By flirting with someone's husband, do we not become traitors to a woman's lineage, especially when the betrayed wife is terminally ill? Can romancing in Saudi Arabia be considered an extreme sport with the risk of disability or loss of life. Is an honour crime committed against Muslim women really honourable? It seems absurd.
The novel is set in orthodox Saudi Arabia, civil war-ridden and humanitarian disaster-stricken Yemen, within Israel and the Palestinian Authority and in the constantly bombarded Gaza Strip.
How is Dorothy coping with her terminal illness? Will she change or continue to be feisty? Or is this the end of her? Does Dr. Warda, who tried to bounce a cancer patient from her husband, feel remorse? Do the women have a chance to remain friends? Will Marysia Salimi be happy with her new husband, Israeli Jacob Goldman? Or will she miss her previous life and her first great love, millionaire Hamid Binladen, who is now married to her sister Daria?
Will Daria Salimi learn to live in a law-abiding world and give her heart to Hamid? Does this relationship have a chance of success? Or will he want to return his older sister to her doom?
What's going on with Nadia Binladen, who is entering adulthood? Will she succeed in maintaining her innocence and honesty, or will she betray the principles and beliefs instilled in her?
The women of the Goldman family are just as unpredictable as those of the Salimi clan, so that Yente, Abigail and Dalia will constantly be at the centre of turmoil and drastic change.
The Arabian Traitor is another part of the Oriental saga, but like all the others it can be read independently, as it forms a closed whole.
