Autumn afternoons are perfect for homemade baking filled with the warming aroma of cinnamon. At the Food Plus online shop, you can find the ingredients you need to prepare soft and fluffy yeast swirls with a fruity filling. This recipe uses Łowicz Plum Butter, which pairs beautifully with cinnamon and delicate yeast dough. These sweet swirls are a lovely treat with coffee or tea and a delicious idea for a weekend breakfast or afternoon snack for the whole family.
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 500 g plain flour
- 250 ml milk
- 7 g dried yeast
- 60 g sugar
- 70 g butter
- 1 egg
- a pinch of salt
For the filling:
- 200–220 g Łowicz Plum Butter
- 1–1½ tsp ground cinnamon
To finish:
- 1 egg or 2 tbsp milk, for brushing
- icing sugar, optional
Preparation:
- Gently warm the milk – it should be warm but not hot. Melt the butter and leave it to cool slightly.
- Place the flour, dried yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Add the egg, warm milk and melted butter.
- Knead for around 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth, soft and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with a clean tea towel and leave the dough in a warm place for around 60–90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Roll the risen dough into a rectangle approximately 5 mm thick.
- Spread the plum butter evenly over the dough and sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Roll the dough up tightly from the longer side, then cut into 10–12 pieces.
- Arrange the swirls on a baking tray lined with baking paper, leaving a little space between them. Cover and leave to rise for another 20–30 minutes.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg or milk.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for around 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
- Leave to cool slightly and dust with icing sugar if you like. They are particularly delicious served slightly warm.
Tip
Avoid using too thick a layer of plum butter, as the filling may spill out when you roll the dough. For a more aromatic, spiced flavour, add a small pinch of cardamom to the cinnamon. The swirls are also delicious the next day – simply warm them briefly before serving.
